You may want to sample plants to observe while using this
diagnostic guide. Fresh plant parts are better for diagnosis than dried or
wilted plants. Placing plants in plastic bags and on ice in coolers will help
maintain near normal appearances. Carefully observe all parts of the soybean
plant even if it appears that symptoms are localized on particular plant parts.
Soil should be carefully removed from roots, perhaps with gentle soaking. In
some instances, you may need to cut into stems or roots to observe internal
structures.
Many insect pests are difficult to see or detect. Often they drop to the ground and escape observation. Sweep nets may be useful for catching elusive pests. A magnifying lens should be use to observe signs and symptoms of abnormalities that are difficult to see because of their small size. |
