The fall armyworm is up to 1-1/2 inches long with a gray-green to dark brown body color. The head is dark brown with an inverted white Y on the “face.” Fall armyworm rarely attacks soybeans except in outbreak years.

Damage is caused by foliage and pod feeding similar to corn earworm damage. Found throughout the South and parts of the Midwest, this pest prefers grasses, peanuts, and cotton over soybeans.
