Sulfur deficiency symptoms are similar to nitrogen but tend to appear on upper leaves. Problems are most likely to occur during cool, wet weather on sandy and/or low organic matter soils. There is no reliable soil test to indicate if sulfur fertilization would be profitable. However, the use of plant analysis to identify deficiencies, and the soil application of calcium sulfate (gypsum), potassium sulfate, or potassium magnesium sulfate will correct the situation.
