Manganese toxicity problems are normally associated with very acidic (low pH) soils or soils that have been flooded. Plant symptoms are characterized by a dark green appearance and a reduction of plant height and leaf size. In severe cases, leaves are distorted or crinkled, and the term ‘crinkle leaf” is commonly used when referring to severe manganese toxicity. The addition of agricultural limestone to neutralize soil acidity normally alleviates the problem, though care should be taken with lime when soybean is rotated with rice. |
