Manganese deficiencies may be found on soils that are very sandy, have high pH (7 or above), or are formed from lake bed, glacial outwash, peat, or muck parent materials.
Symptoms usually appear 20 to 40 days after emergence and consist of plant stunting and upper leaves with interveinal chlorosis. Chlorotic areas may not be as yellow as with iron deficiency.
Soil or foliar applications of manganese will correct deficiency problems, though foliar applications may have to be repeated if symptoms re-develop. |
