Leaves injured by hail are torn and ragged. Stems may be cut off, broken, or severely bruised. Diseases may develop in damaged leaf and stem wounds. Soybeans usually recover from hail damage if plants are not cut off below the cotelydonary node. The extent of yield loss will also depend upon the severity of the hail damage and growth stage of soybeans. Typically, plants in reproductive stages suffer greatest yield loss.
